Holland Family Law recently expanded its domestic violence support services to better help victims of abuse from a legal perspective.
Anyone can become a victim of domestic abuse regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, background, social status or sexuality. We’re here to support all victims of abuse, including members of the LGBTQ community.
Domestic Violence Support Available to the LGBTQ Community
Domestic violence affects people from all walks of life and comes in many forms. Nobody should have to suffer any form of domestic violence and there are options available to stop the abuse.
Domestic violence can and does go hidden from the world and this is particularly true for the LGBTQ community, who, because of their sexual orientation, are frightened to reach out for the help that is available, fearing an admission of their same sex partner will mean that they will not be taken seriously.
According to a recent study, referred to by Stonewall, trans people in particular face high levels of abuse. The study found that 80% of trans people had suffered emotional, sexual or physical abuse from a partner or ex-partner.
Meanwhile, a study in the US (published in 2013), found that bi women are nearly twice as likely to be abused compared to straight women.
As an inclusive family law firm, Holland Family Law’s domestic violence support services extend to the LGBTQ community. Every case we handle is taken seriously, dealt with sensitively and in complete confidentiality.
